The last girl in the shadows tried to hide, screaming beneath her taped mouth when Tiny reached for her. “We’re not going to hurt you,” he tried to tell her quietly but she was having none of it. 

I held out a hand as she got closer. “Hurry, sweetheart.” As soon as she put her hand in mine, our eyes met. 

My entire world collapsed.

Emotions I hadn’t felt in a long time clashed within the terror I tried to mask seeing her. Her beautiful face that once held me completely captive was beyond bruised. Dried cuts and blood crossed the bridge of her nose. Under her eyes.
